About the Artist
Charles Barreto is a visual artist who transforms ordinary objects into
extraordinary narratives. Born in Aracaju and shaped by the vibrant cultural
scene of Rio de Janeiro, he developed a unique language through
assemblage — intertwining memory, aesthetics, and social critique.
Forgotten fragments and everyday relics are rescued to create works that
engage in a dialogue between the sacred and the profane, the intimate
and the collective.
Artist Statement
Every object I choose carries a memory, a story that resonates beyond its
material. Working with assemblage is like listening to the silence of things
and translating it into images. My studio is a place of reunions: between the
old and the new, the sacred and the mundane, the personal and the
collective. I don’t seek ready-made answers — I create to spark questions.
My work isn’t about what we see, but about what we feel in the presence of
what has been left behind. For me, art is an ongoing practice of discovery
and revelation.
