Cecilia
Materials – Earth, gynecological device, thread, photograph of
Leonardo da Vinci’s painting Lady with an Ermine.
Technique – Three-dimensional assemblage.
The work engages in a dialogue with the classic Renaissance portrait of
Cecilia Gallerani, lover of Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan, immortalized by
Leonardo da Vinci between 1489 and 1491. The juxtaposition of
contemporary elements—such as the gynecological device and the earth
—invites reflection on the female body, the passage of time, and the
representation of women in art history. The original image, now preserved
at the Czartoryski Museum in Krakow, serves here as both a symbol and a
counterpoint for a new interpretation.
